Micafungin Sodium is a sterile, semi-synthetic echinocandin antifungal active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). It is a highly potent and selective inhibitor of 1,3-?-D-glucan synthase, an enzyme critical for fungal cell wall synthesis. This mechanism of action confers fungicidal activity againstCandidaspecies, including azole-resistant strains, and fungistatic activity againstAspergillusspecies. The API is presented as a white to off-white lyophilized powder or cake, soluble in water for the preparation of intravenous infusions. Its primary clinical use is for the treatment and prophylaxis of invasive candidiasis and esophageal candidiasis, offering a favorable safety profile with minimal drug interactions.
